Life happens.
Sometimes good things catch us by surprise, and other times bad things happen that are out of our control.
All we can do is try to prepare for emergencies before they happen.
Safety-proof your home:
-
Walk through your house and notice any safety hazards that are easy to get to, like electrical outlets or heavy objects that could fall off of shelves.
-
Look at your home through your children's eyes and see what kind of trouble you would get into!
Create a safety plan:
-
Write a list of things that could happen and what you would do. For example: What if your child runs out and gets lost? If they get very upset and start hurting themselves or someone else? If they get injured?
-
Include a list of emergency phone numbers, doctors, insurance information, medicines they take, and other people to call.
-
Share the plan with other family members, neighbors, or anyone who works closely with your child.
