Why health insurance is important

It's really important to have health insurance! This is especially true for someone with a disability.

Why?

  •  It can help you to get healthy and stay healthy.

  • It will pay for regular checkups and health screenings even if you're not sick. These can prevent health problems later on.
  • Many health plans have special services for people with disabilities. These may include special testing and evaluation, therapies, or support for living and working in the community.

  • It will pay for emergency care if you get sick or injured.

We'll tell you about 2 kinds of insurance you can get: 

  1. Medicaid — Government-run insurance for people with low income or disabilities.

  2. Private insurance — Insurance you get through your employer or on your own.

It's also important to know how to get care without insurance if you ever need to.
