Louisiana has two main graduation pathways for all students, including those with disabilities.
Each pathway has its own set of requirements. Your IEP Team can help you and your child decide which is best.
TOPS University Pathway
The traditional high school pathway
Prepares students to go on to a 4-year college
Jump Start Career (or TOPS Tech) Pathway
Prepares students for a technical or community college AND trains them for a specific career
Students will get a diploma and one or more "Credentials" for a certain type of job
We'll tell you more about these in the next screens! You may also hear about the Alternate Assessment or 833 pathways, which are part of Jumpstart. We'll tell you about these later in this Guide.
Here's what you can do:
Work with your child and the rest of the IEP team to choose which graduation pathway works best for them. Your child's goals will help decide this.
With the team, map out a class schedule that will meet the requirements of that pathway. This is called an Individual Graduation Plan, or IGP.
A Transcript is a detailed list of the courses your child has taken, and the grades they got in each.
