Interacting with your child

This is one of the most important ways to take care of your child.

Play with young kids! Share favorite activities with older kids and teens!

Either way, spending time together will help you both have fun and stay positive. It also strengthens your role as a trusted ally for your child.

For younger children, playing together can also help them learn some important skills:

Click on the link at the bottom of the page to download a list of ideas for purposeful play. (It will open in a new tab or appear in the bottom corner of your screen)

If your child is a preteen or teen, having a strong relationship with family members will help them through the challenges of adolescence.

Here's what you can do:

  • Do things together that your child enjoys

  • Encourage them to communicate their needs and thoughts

  • Make sure they know that you understand and support them

  • See the other resources for teens in this Guide!
